Ys V for Super Famicom translated into English

by on Dec.08, 2013, under News

YsV
For many years, the majority of the Ys series has been restricted to Japan. Fortunately, XSEED has been working hard to bring many of the remakes of the series into English via the PSP, PS Vita and PC. However, one title in the series had been overlooked – Ys V: Kefin, The Lost Kingdom of Sand.

Released on the Super Famicom at the end of 1995, Ys V had arrived much too late to be translated for Western audiences, many of whom were already turned off by somewhat terrible versions of Ys III for the SNES. Ys V was remade for the PlayStation in 2006, but again, interest in the West had already turned to a new generation of consoles, and again, had largely avoided the recent release of Ys VI: The Ark of Napishtim. If fans were going to play Ys V, they would either have to wait for another remake, or create a translation patch for the SNES ROM.

Translation group Aeon Genesis has done just that. After a long period of work, the group recently released their patch for the game, effectively making the entire series playable in English. The game is quite a bit different than other games in the series – button based attack and defending make it feel a bit more action-based than its brethren, but it’s still pretty neat.

English versions of Ys IV to PSVita, Ys I & II Chronicles+ to PC

XSEED has unveiled their plans for more Ys games in the coming months.

Ys: Memories of Celeta is a remake of Ys IV for the PlayStation Vita. Ys IV is one of the few remaining games in the series to not have seen an official English translation. Memories of Celeta is the third version of Ys IV, but the first to be developed by series creator Nihon Falcom.

PC fans will also be treated to some Ys loving with the release of Ys I & II Chronicles+. This is set to be a polished up version of the PSP release which came out in 2011, which was in turn a polished up version of the 2001 remake of the games for Windows. Yeah.

Each game will receive a digital and a physical release.

Ys Origin headed to Steam at the end of May

by on May.25, 2012, under News

Ys Origin, the seventh game in the Ys series, is set for a May 31 release on Steam.

Ys Origin is a prequel, and is thus the first Ys game in chronological terms. Set 700 years before Ys I & II, Ys Origin explores the back story of Ys through three playable characters (each with their own story) who might sound a tad familiar to fans with a good memory of the original titles.

Originally released in 2006 for Windows, Ys Origin will finally be released outside of Japan thanks to publisher XSEED Games and their localization efforts. The Steam version boasts widescreen and enhanced game pad support, online leaderboards, and additional game modes (available upon completion).

Ys Origin will set you (and me!) back $US19.99/€15.99/£12.99.
