Capcom want fan submissions for Street Fighter’s 25th anniversary

With Street Fighter celebrating its 25th anniversary later this year, Capcom is requesting fan submissions of art and music for future use in the commemorations.

Capcom have said that they are “planning some pretty cool stuff” for the upcoming anniversary and they want Street Fighter fans to get involved. Through either celebratory fan art focusing on reflection and nostalgia or a music piece (remix or new creation), fans have the chance for their contribution to be “immortalised” as part of the Street Fighter tribute.

Capcom has promised to reveal their plans for the anniversary celebrations (which includes a tournament) closer to time.

New artbook details the creation Street Fighter X Tekken’s Mega Man

Whether you think it was a neat tribute or a cruel joke, the “classic” interpretation of Mega Man featured in Street Fighter X Tekken happened.

A new book, Street Fighter X Tekken Artworks features a detailed breakdown of many of the different concepts that were devised during the creation of the game. The book is currently only available in Japanese, but there’s a remote chance that it might see an English release through Udon like many of Capcom’s other artbooks.

However, if you can’t wait until them, the Mega Man Network has posted a few scans from the book.

Video Game Ad of the Day: Street Fighter II: Special Champion Edition

Street Fighter II: Special Champion Edition is a Mega Drive specific version of Street Fighter II that encompasses both Street Fighter II: Champion Edition and Street Fighter II: Hyper Fighting. Playing the game without a six button controller was something of an exercise in annoyance, as you’d have to switch between kicking and punching moves with the start button, leaving you unable to pause the action.

Street Fighter X Monopoly, coming this year.

USAopoly has announced that they will be releasing a Street Fighter themed version of the classic board game Monopoly.

The company has released a large number of video game themed board games, including the recent Risk: Metal Gear Solid Edition.

A contest will be run in the near future to decide which of the pantheon of World Warriors will be made into player pieces.

New video investigates the origins of Poison

Debate has raged for many years about the gender of Final Fight‘s Poison. Localisation issues, retconning and the language barrier have caused nothing but confusion, leaving fans to settle the fight among themselves.

So is Poison a man, a woman, or transgender?

The above video by YouTuber MegatonStammer investigates the history of Poison’s gender, even going through Final Fight’s original concept art, with the goal of settling the matter once and for all.

Street Fighter: The Movie is, as the name suggests, based on the film which was loosely based on the game. Unlike the arcade version, the home version was actually developed internally by Capcom, which some might say was an attempt at salvaging the project and turning it into something playable.

Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike is (obviously) the third version of Street Fighter III and the second to be released for home consoles. 3rd Strike added five new characters, new music, the Guard Parry move and a multitude of other refinements. The game continues to be held in high regard amongst fighting game fans.

Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike Online due August 23

Capcom announced today through their Unity blog that they will be releasing Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike Online on Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network on August 23.

The new version of the game features polished graphics, a new tournament feature, an art gallery, online play and achievements/trophies.

The ultimate fighting game grudge match.

Capcom vs. SNK: Millenium Fight 2000 is the first Capcom-developed entry in the crossover fighting series. 14 characters from each brand (28 total) come together to battle it out to see just who really is the king of fighters. It was originally released for Sega’s NAOMI arcade board, and later ported to Dreamcast. This ad comes from the campaign for the release of the Dreamcast port in North America.

Video Game Ad of the Day: Street Fighter Alpha 2

Street Fighter Alpha 2 was developed and published by Capcom in 1996. The game is a bit weird in that’s it’s both a remake of and sequel to Street Fighter Alpha: Warriors’ Dreams. The most recent port of the game was in the Street Fighter Alpha Anthology for the PlayStation 2. This advertisement originates from the UK.
