Zone of the Enders HD now due in Autumn

by on Mar.01, 2012, under News

Zone of the Enders HD Collection is set to launch this Autumn, according to a release from Konami.

Unofficial reports and retailer dates originally had the collection primed for a May release, but this does not appear to be the case.

The collection also appears to be getting a lot more attention than first thought, with images of redone introductory cutscenes recently being touted by Hideo Kojima. It was also recently revealed that the collection will feature the superior Special Edition release of Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner, which was not released in North America.

Metal Gear 1 & 2 included in Metal Gear Solid HD Collection

by on Aug.12, 2011, under News

Hideo Kojima has confirmed via Twitter that the version of Metal Gear Solid 3 featured in the upcoming HD Collection is based on Subsistence, not the original Snake Eater. He also confirmed that the redone versions of Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake that were featured in the PlayStation 2 release of Subsistence will be included – in their low res glory, of course.

Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2 were updated for cellphones early last decade. While they retain their distinct MSX2 attributes, the game’s character potrait art was changed to reflect the series’ post Metal Gear Solid style.

This means that if you buy the Japanese version of the collection, you get Metal Gear, Metal Gear 2, Metal Gear Solid (the Game Archive version via download code), Metal Gear Solid 2 and Metal Gear Solid 3, with Peace Walker HD sold separately. Westerners lose out on the downloadable version of Metal Gear Solid, but gain Peace Walker HD.

There is no word yet on whether the version of Metal Gear Solid 2 included in the collection is based on the original Sons of Liberty or the updated Substance version.

All Metal Gear Solid HD Collection games run at 60FPS

by on Jul.30, 2011, under News

I remember being bummed out the first time I loaded up Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, only to find that the silky smooth 60FPS frame rate from MGS2 had to be sacrificed to create the game’s lush environments (I was also in a fever state, though). Of course, the sheer quality of that game quickly solved that dilemma.

It was always Kojima’s intention to have the game running at 60FPS (the early teaser trailers do), and now you’ll finally be able to play it that way when the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection launches later this year.

Both Snake Eater and Peace Walker are getting bumped up to 60FPS. Peace Walker will also be playable in 1080p.

Double Dragon II remake coming to XBLA

by on Jul.28, 2011, under News

Double Dragon II: The Revenge is getting the remake treatment this year courtesy of Korean developer Barunson Interactive. The remake, entitled Wander of the Dragons will be fully 3D and based on the arcade version of DDII, not the superior NES version. Sounds like the same mistake Ubisoft made with Turtles in Time.

The trailer doesn’t exactly fill me with hope for this being good – in fact, it kind of made me want to projectile vomit. The game will set you back 1200 Microsoft Points when it arrives later in the year.

The company has also thrown a third element onto the disc – an early taste of Tekken Tag Tournament 2, which will be released on the PS3 next year.

If you can’t wait until then to see Tekken: Bloodline Vengeance, you might still be able to catch the screening of the film tomorrow – if you live in Sydney.

Resident Evil: Revival Selection achievements revealed

by on Jul.16, 2011, under News

The achievements for the HD remastered versions of Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil: Code Veronica X have been revealed. The games are going to be released separately outside of Japan as part of the Xbox Live Games on Demand section for the Xbox 360, and through the PlayStation store on the PlayStation 3. As the games are being treated as full retail releases, each game carries the full 1,000 achievement points.

Unfortunately, it seems the achievements for each game were knuckled down when Capcom thought they games would be released on Xbox Live Arcade, as there are only 12 achievements in each game. It’s disappointing that the vast majority of the achievements in the game are tied to main story progression when each of these games has rich post story and side mission content.
